How to choose the best pair of glasses for your face shape

We like to think of glasses as accessories.  A pair of glasses can change up your look as quickly and easily as some eye-catching liner or bold lipstick.  There are lots of factors to take into consideration when picking out the perfect frame to you.  Different elements like frame shape, color, and style all play a role in finding the right frame for you.

Face shape can help determine which glasses will work best for you.  Each individual has a unique face shape and that’s part of what makes the process of picking out glasses fun.

Oval shaped faces often have a curved jawline and high cheekbones.  You want to avoid any frame that is too large with this face shape.  Recommended frame shapes:

  • Wayfarer
  • Aviator
  • Rectangle
  • Browline
  • Square

Round face shape is typically as wide as it is long and lacking prominent cheekbones.  You’ll want to avoid frames that are too small.  Frame shapes we recommend:

  • Rectangle
  • Square
  • Cat-eye
  • Round
  • Aviator

Heart shaped faces have high cheekbones with small chins and broad foreheads.  People with this face shape want to stay away from heavy frames that are square and brow-line.

  • Rectangle
  • Round
  • Aviator
  • Geometric

Diamond face shape combines an angular jawline and prominent cheekbones with a more narrow forehead.  Diamond face shapes should avoid square and rectangle frames.  We recommend the following frame styles:

  • Cat-eye
  • Oval
  • Brow-line
  • Rimless or semi-rimless
  • Round

A square face has the characteristics of a wide, angular jawline and a broad forehead. People with this face shape will want to avoid geometric patterns and square shaped frames. Recommended frame shapes:

  • Oval
  • Round
  • Browline
  • Cat-eye

Everyone’s face shape is truly unique and many people have features from multiple face shapes.  Feel free to stop by and have our trained opticians help you find the frame that fits your personality best.
