Treating dry eye requires a complete understanding of your dry eye situation, including the type of dry eye affecting you, your current symptoms, and the severity of your condition. We can recommend a treatment plan after identifying the cause of your dry eyes and learning more about your needs.

While many factors can lead to dry eyes, this condition typically has 2 main causes, decreased tear production and increased tear evaporation. You can experience one or both of these problems.
Decreased tear production is an issue where you don’t produce as many tears as you used to. This condition mainly occurs due to age, but other factors can affect tear production. Medical conditions like Sjogren’s syndrome or vitamin A deficiency and certain medications like antihistamines and antidepressants can lead to fewer tears. Increased tear evaporation occurs when there are issues with the quality of your tears. The small glands on the edge of your eyelids (meibomian glands) can become blocked or clogged, leading to complications. Additionally, problems with the eyelids, allergies, infrequent blinking, and wind, smoke, or dry air can cause your tears to evaporate too quickly.
